The Clean Oceans Mission Street Mural. Santa Cruz, California.
Clean Oceans International, in conjunction with the Arts Council of Santa Cruz County, proposes a healthy-marine-environment mural on the wall that surrounds Bayview Elementary, spanning half a city block on Mission Street for thousands to enjoy on a daily basis!
Scheduled to kick off September/October of 2017, we are fundraising to purchase the painting materials needed and also to raise funds which will compensate the artists for their time (the wall is 500+ feet long!! it’ll be the largest to date in Santa Cruz county!!) … The primary artists slated to complete the job (Taylor, Scotty and Casey) are 3 experienced local muralists born and raised right here in Santa Cruz… we are excited to have them on board!!!
Do you drive by this wall every day and take note of its current condition? Do you see the value in having a mural painted on its entire length?!!! Would you be willing to help spread the word? Make a donation towards this community beautification? We hope so!
Imagine a wall with vivid aquatic colors and a naturally gorgeous array of oceanic wildlife, coupled with ocean-habitat-minded quotations, informing thousands of ocean bound travelers to keep our marine environment healthy and plastic free!!
The message we plan to share via this 500′ beauty will subtilely sound the alarm regarding the side effects our packaging habits are directly having on our oceans ecosystems… yet in the same breath, our goal is to magnify the hope that something can be done and IS being done to reverse these effects.
We, Clean Oceans International, are a local 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose primary objective is to aid in the ocean wide clean up that’s happening as we speak. Did you know that we have a machine that converts plastic into diesel fuel? Have you met our devoted team of staff and volunteers? We are dedicated to preserving all marine sanctuaries and we believe this wall can be a great way to get the word out about what we do!! Education is key and the time is now so we’re taking action!!
Speaking of education, the children at Bayview Elementary will surely be included in this project, during the 2017/2018 school year the kids will be painting mosaic tiles that will incorporated into the mural!! So cool!!
See all these exclamation points? I hope you can sense how excited we are about this project and really hope our enthusiasm (as well as our mission) is potentially worthy of any contribution you may have… This mural will bring a new joy to our community, so we are reaching out to the community for help.
The oceans and seas are essential to maintaining a future that’s sustainable and bright for all earth-kind! Each and every organism living in our oceans is affected by plastic and some are teetering on extinction, Clean Oceans International is committed to raising awareness.
We have solutions to share! Habit change can change habitats! This mural will be a daily reminder for us all to play a pro-active and positive roll in caring for this amazing world we live in.
Thank you for your consideration, thank you for your gift to our community. Your donation is greatly appreciated!!
